I find that when I get called to someone’s office for a meeting, taking my coffee mug with me gives me a sense of confidence bordering on superiority. It says, “Yes, I came to your meeting, but it’s not so important that it’s going to interrupt my coffee-drinking.” Maybe that’s why Lumbergh in Office Space carried that mug around. It says, “I’m not just giving you orders, I’m multitasking while I do it.”

Inanimate objects are talkative sometimes.
